Kyra graduated in the top tier of
her law school class from Fordham University School of Law in 1996, having
attended at night, and served as Director of Business Affairs and in-house
counsel to PrimeTime 24, an entertainment company in New York City, from 1996 to 1998. Kyra then moved to Virginia and was selected as assistant
telecommunications counsel to the Ranking Member of the U.S. House of
Representatives’ Commerce Committee. She
then served as Legislative Assistant in the United States Senate to Senator
Frank Lautenberg, handling among other things, small business and taxation
issues. After leaving Capitol Hill, Kyra was an associate at the law firm of
Powell, Goldstein, Frazer & Murphy, where she represented companies in
international trade and intellectual property legislative matters. Kyra is the founder of the The Howell Law
Firm , PLLC, which opened in 2005, and she now pursues her interests of working
closely with individuals by engaging in planning for parents and grandparents
focused on the healthy transition of family wealth, and working with small business owners to ensure the proper formation and maintenance of their business entities. Kyra is a member of the Estates & Trusts
Section of the American Bar Association as well as the Virginia Bar
Association.
Kyra’s previous work has been quoted in
the Washington Post, and she has appeared in media such as MSNBC, CBC-Toronto,
and Radio Free Europe. Kyra has chosen to concentrate on the Trusts and Estates
area because she is passionate about helping families create happy and secure
futures.
Most
importantly, Kyra and her husband Steven are the proud parents of Mason,
Lilliane, and Carson.
